FOR TRAVEL AGENCIES
Hungarian Traditions on the Table
A Day in the World of the Puszta
One of the most beloved programmes of travel agencies is the famous horse show at the New Tanyacsárda. The horse show takes place in a specially developed sandy area, and guests can view the spectacular programme from a comfortable, thatched tribune. The programme creates a cheerful atmosphere from the very first minute. Arriving guests are welcomed by our horsemen, who then accompany them to the courtyard of the csárda. Under the walnut trees, guests are welcomed with freshly baked hot crackling scones (pogácsa) and brandy (pálinka).
According to need, the programme can begin with a carriage ride along the sandy hills of the Great Hungarian Plain (Puszta), followed by the horse herd drive and horse show. During the performance, viewers can admire the famous “Puszta Five”, several special skill demonstrations by the horsemen, including horse laying down and horse sitting, whip cracking and horsemen’s competition, as well as obstacle driving with a coach and four and donkey training.
Our programmes usually run from mid-March until mid-November; however, the Tanyacsárda is open all year round. We also welcome groups during the winter period, and in snowy weather we offer our guests special winter horse shows and horse-drawn sleigh programmes.
On the grounds of the csárda, guests can also get a closer look at native Hungarian animal breeds. They can see Hungarian Grey cattle, buffaloes, Racka sheep and donkeys, while turkeys, ducks and guinea fowl can be found in the poultry yard. The aviary is home to further special bird species.
Further Activities
Horse programmes can also be combined with Puszta Olympic Games, a cooking course or a cooking competition upon request. The Puszta Olympic Games can be organized in several languages, and the games are adapted to the season, weather conditions and the composition of the group. In case of bad weather, a wide range of indoor activities is also available.
Cooking courses have expanded significantly over the years. While in the past they mainly focused on preparing kettle goulash, today we organize cooking programmes for groups of up to 200–300 people, divided into several teams, during which 10–15 different dishes can be prepared as part of a complete menu.
Our guests can also arrive in a special way: by nostalgic steam train, retro buses or even by Trabant, further enhancing the authentic atmosphere of the experience.
As part of our wide range of events, visitors can also take part in programmes reviving Hungarian traditions. Folklore performances, spectacular folk shows and live Gypsy music provide a memorable experience for all age groups.
During our gastronomic programmes, guests can take part in an authentic Hungarian goulash party or an atmospheric outdoor grill party. They can join in the preparations for roasting ox, pig or chicken on a spit, or prepare individual dishes themselves under the guidance of our chef during our entertaining cooking courses.
In addition to traditional and equestrian programmes, we also offer agricultural professional programmes for experts working in agriculture, professional organizations and foreign groups interested in Hungarian agriculture. During these programmes, participants can gain an insight into the agricultural traditions and current practices of the region, and the programmes can also be organized in foreign languages.
Our experienced team pays special attention to details and the individual needs of each group, ensuring that every event provides a personalized and memorable experience.

Fun cooking course or cooking competition
This is a programme where guests cook in an oven, on a spit and in a cauldron. All this takes place in an authentic rural setting.
Our guests are provided with aprons and knives. Everyone helps with the cooking. Participants work with ingredients that are partly raw and, where required, pre-cooked.
With the help of our master chef, we cook goulash in a cauldron over an open fire, and bake delicious homemade bread to go with it. Guests peel and chop the ingredients and make dumplings. The head chef also helps with the seasoning. On request, we prepare stuffed cabbage in an earthenware dish or roast chicken on a spit. Guests can also choose from a range of other dishes to prepare. For dessert, the Tanyacsárda speciality, milk pie, is served.

After the cooking session, a delicious lunch or dinner follows, featuring a selection of dishes prepared with the guests’ help. Accompanied by gypsy music, the ‘professional chefs’ enjoy their own home-cooked meals in a convivial atmosphere.
We organise cooking competitions for groups ranging from 5–10 people up to 300. It is also possible to prepare 10–15 dishes simultaneously.
The programme can also be booked in combination with a horse show.

Retro transfer
Nostalgia Steam Train
The Nostalgia Steam Train departs from the Ferenc József waiting room at Budapest’s Nyugati railway station, or – for a shorter route – from Üllő station. The train crew, dressed in period costumes, adds to the authenticity of this journey back in time. The interior décor and atmosphere of the carriages evoke memories of the early 20th century. Guests are offered cold snacks during the journey, whilst a tango accordionist provides entertainment. On arrival at Lajosmizse, horsemen stop the train and, by ‘kidnapping’ one or two female passengers, add a touch of excitement to the atmosphere. The rest of the guests are transported by horse-drawn carriages to the venue of the horse show. After the show, guests enjoy their lunch or dinner at the Tanyacsárda. An authentic peasant wedding can also be added to the programme, completing the traditional experience in the Hungarian Puszta.
